FAQs

Why is local beef better?
Local beef supports nearby ranchers, reduces transportation impact, and is typically fresher and more flavorful than store-bought options.
Where can I buy local beef in Colorado?
You can order directly from Villalobos Ranch through our website and pick up at the ranch or select drop-off locations.
When is the best time to order beef from a ranch?
Because we sell in limited seasonal batches, ordering early ensures you get the share size you want.
What’s the difference between buying beef from a ranch vs. the grocery store?
When you buy direct from a ranch, you know exactly how your beef was raised, processed, and handled. You also get higher quality cuts at a better value per pound.
What size beef shares do you offer?
We offer quarter, half, and whole beef shares. This lets you choose the amount that best fits your family’s freezer space and meal plans.
What makes Villalobos Ranch beef different?
We raise and care for our cattle ourselves — no outsourcing, no feedlots, no shortcuts. Our animals are grass-fed and finished, never given hormones or antibiotics, and processed at a USDA-inspected facility. You’re getting beef that’s truly Colorado-raised, from pasture to plate.
What does “grass-fed and finished” mean?
It means our cattle eat grass their entire lives — never grain, corn, or soy — resulting in healthier beef with richer flavor and better nutrition.
Is your beef antibiotic- and hormone-free?
Absolutely. We never use hormones or antibiotics in our cattle.
Is all “grass-fed” beef the same?
No. Many brands use “grass-fed” loosely — cattle may start on grass but end up in feedlots. At Villalobos Ranch, our cattle spend their lives on pasture, eating the grass they were born to graze.
How much freezer space do I need for a beef share?
As a rule of thumb:
- Quarter beef: about 4 cubic feet
- Half beef: about 8 cubic feet
- Whole beef: about 16 cubic feet
